Healing: 2025 Solo Exhibition by I-Ying Beatrice Chiang
Rooted in the rural memories of her hometown, Daxi in Taiwan, I-Ying Beatrice Chiang transforms her deep emotional connection to the land into artistic inspiration. This project launched with the artist’s longing for her father, expressed through hands-on farming experiences. Through tilling and planting, the act of cultivation becomes a ritual of reconnection—with both the earth and her family—and prompts reflections on the relationship between humans and nature.
Inviting nature as a co-creator, Chiang maintains the organic textures and growth marks of the materials she works with. Employing craft techniques and incorporating 3D printing, molding, electric welding, enameling, metalsmithing, and woodworking, she fosters a dialogue between natural fibers and contrasting materials like metal and plastic. The resulting works embody a dynamic aesthetic tension between the organic and the man-made. These pieces evoke tactile, chromatic, and olfactory sensations and encourage a deeper reflection on sustainability and our emotional connection with the land— resonating with a quiet longing for renewal, continuity, and reconnecting with nature.
This exhibition serves as both a tribute to the artist’s hometown and an artistic exploration focused on perception, materiality, and cultural memory. Through her works as microcosmic vessels, Chiang captures the emotional and temporal layers embedded in the soil, channeling a serene yet potent force that flows between nature and the human mind.
